The Dreaded About Me Post

Okay, maybe this post is only ever “dreaded” by the writer of the post. Why is it so hard to focus in on ourselves and tell the world about who we are? Is it just me? Anyways, that’s a topic for another day, so here it is y’all!

My name is Whitney Harris, I am married to my wonderful husband Dominque Harris and have been for a little over two years. We have 5 wonderful, sweet, rescue dogs. You thought I was going to say kids, right? NOT. They are my “fur children”; cue the eye roll for the cutesy name. Since we have taken in so many pups, and seen even more come and go or helped them by fostering them until adopted, we are currently in the planning stages of beginning our own rescue. Exciting right? Okay, okay, I’m a little off topic here. SO! Basically, my point is, no human children in our household…yet.

I am a registered nurse that has dabbled many different specialties and to my frustration found that, oh, surprise, nursing is not my passion. Therefore I am taking a leap and beginning a new journey. I am currently in training to become a doula and loving every minute. There is nothing I am more passionate about than birth. You’re passionate about birth, but you have no kids, you ask? I know it seems silly so maybe I should reword that statement. I am passionate about women’s and children’s health and women being able to make informed choices about their bodies. I am passionate about women having an empowering birth experience rather than a fearful one. I believe birth is the most wonderful miracle a woman gets to be a part of and every birth experience should be beautiful and unique, not clouded by poor care or uninformed decisions. Though I am just beginning my doula journey I have long held these interests and long studied the many facets and issues regarding birthing in America. I worked briefly in labor and delivery in a local hospital and realized very quickly that it was not the birth setting for me.

More than being a doula, my goal is to be a resource for women. With this blog I hope to help women become more informed of their choices and therefore empower them to be their own advocates. I hope to build a community of strong women who are passionate and care for their bodies.

I am so excited to embark on this journey and I hope you will join me!
